About Us
In the Centre for Education Practice Research we research education where it happens – on the ground in homes, in schools and in communities in our part of the world.
From our home-base on the Soweto campus of the University of Johannesburg, we design inquiries about learning and development in the childhood years. Here we also plan studies of teaching and curriculum for the primary school. Many of these studies are about pre-service teacher education.
A hallmark of the Centre is its connections with schools in Soweto and with academic departments at the University. One such school is the Funda UJabule primary school, which is situated on the university campus, where much of the student teachers’ practice learning takes place. The Department of Childhood Education is our neighbour in the Robert Sobukwe building and also partner in many studies.
